On the 26th last month, AKB48’s Tomo~mi aka Kasai Tomomi released her debut solo single, “Masaka”. Being a 2nd gen and regular Senbatsu member, Tomo~mi is a regular face to AKB and non-AKB fans alike. “Masaka” comes in 3 types, namely 2 CD+DVD LE types and 1 CD-only RE type.

Being quite a fan of Tomo~mi’s vocals (the girl can sing, even if her voice is the squeaky-cutesy type), I bought both Limited Editions. The covers itself were quite a contrast to each other, Type A showing a sexier side of her, while Type B goes for a sweeter, softer outlook (which I prefer better). There are really only 2 new songs, namely her A-side “Masaka” and her B-side “Watashi no Hikari”. The rest of the coupling songs, “Dakishimeraretara” (Type A) and “CANDY” (Type B) were taken from past AKB48 stages, except they are now sung solo by Tomo~mi.

In Type A’s DVD, there is the MV for “Masaka”, footage of her solo debut live (which includes some talk on her Gachi-Uma win), as well as the making-of of her first photo book. The MV is really simple and has your typical girl-tries-to-win-attention-of-guy kind of plot. (I like it though, the set was very bright and pretty.) In Tomo~mi’s solo live, she basically performs her new solo song in full, in front of all her adoring fans. And in her PB making-of, it’s just lots of footage of her posing in front of the DSLRs, rolling on the bed, walking in a garden, and even cooking Nabe (hotpot) on her own.

In Type B’s DVD, there is once again the MV for “Masaka”, the history of Kasai Tomomi, and then the making-of of “Masaka”. The history footage part was pretty long, but very insightful and shows you how the girl has truly came such a long way since her first days as an AKB member. I also enjoyed the making-of of her first solo MV; It was a little short tho, but Tomo~mi talks about her fashion, and the set and all that.

Coming with the CDs is also a random photo selected out of 5 kinds (I think), and a ticket to her solo debut’s release event party. RE versions do not come with a photo but there is a handshake session ticket inclusive. I’d bought my CDs from Ginza’s Yamano Music, so there’s also the free extra freebie photo.

Just to put it out there; Despite Tomo~mi’s past controversy regarding the ¥10,000/month challenge, and very recently her photo book cover image controversy, I don’t think we should diss her for all her past efforts in and outside of AKB48. That…is all.

Sae doing a horrible job of dropping her ikemen persona(from AKB48 Yu Satsu THE GREEN ALBUM)

Ok so I looked through my AKB48 Yu Satsu GREEN and YELLOW ALBUMS and I would like to make some comments and observations:

1. Every member of the 48 family from Center to the Kenkyuusei is awesome and deserves to be noticed. They are all beautiful and fun. You can’t tell talent from photos but you can tell these girls enjoy what they do.
2. My oshimen Sae(like a lot of members) is a goofball
3. Sayaka is really proud of her body
4. Takamina has the incredible talent of being able to be irresistibly cute and a dumbfounding dork in the same photo
5. Yuko sleeps a lot… and I mean through practically anything
6. Sae really is ikemen
7. Yukirin can’t take a photo I don’t like
8. Sasshi is an underrated comedian
9. Jurina’s smile is infectious
10. Mayuyu=cute
11. Rena is really a princess
12. Chiyuu seems to be really comfortable being photographed practically nude(foreshadowing maybe)
13. Trying to find bad photos where Mariko and Nyannyan look bad is like trying to find air in space
14. Tomochin takes surprisingly few candid photos
15. I’ve decided if I ever get the chance I want to eat a meal with AKB48 members. Eating to them always seems to be eventful
16. I found I really enjoyed the photos of the less popular girls
17. Sae is perfect

I paid a lot of attention to my oshi.

I love candid photos and that’s all these albums are filled with. They are photgraphs of moments backstage, in hotel rooms and on the road. Photos of members while they are waiting and bored, while they are dressing and prepping for performances or other photoshoots, while they are eating, while they are rehearsing, while they are goofing off and while they are sleeping. You get to see members playing to the camera, wanting to avoid the camera and when they didn’t even know the camera was there. Basically I love the AKB48 Yu Satsu GREEN and YELLOW ALBUMS and I definitly plan on getting the BLUE and RED ALBUMS. If you enjoy candid photos of your idols or if you just want to see your idols being a little less than perfect you should get these albums. They are fun and are more than worth it.
